Install on Windows
-
Download the installer of the current version:
DistributedCryptography-Windows-x64-Setup.exe -
Check the file. Open a command prompt in the folder where you saved it and run:
Terminal window certutil -hashfile DistributedCryptography-Windows-x64-Setup.exe SHA256The result must be the same as this value:
Loading…If the value is not shown, open the release page: it lists the SHA-256 of every file, and so does SHA256SUMS.txt.
If it is different, do not use the file. Download it again.
-
Run the installer. It does not ask for an administrator password: the application is installed for your Windows user only.
The installer is not signed with a certificate, so Windows may show Windows protected your PC. Choose More info and then Run anyway. Do this only after the check of step 2.
-
Start the application with the Distributed Cryptography shortcut, in the Start menu or on the desktop. It starts the wallet and opens your browser at
http://localhost:5000/wallet.wallets.The wallet runs in the window that opens with it. Close that window to stop the wallet.
The files are built by GitHub from the public source code, and every version stays available on the releases page.
Updating and uninstalling
Section titled “Updating and uninstalling”To update, close the wallet and run the installer of the new version: it replaces the one you have.
Your wallets are not in the application folder: the wallets page shows the folder where they are kept. Updating or uninstalling the application does not touch them.
To uninstall, use Settings > Apps in Windows.
Without the installer
Section titled “Without the installer”The same application is also published as a plain zip file, for example to put it on a USB drive or to publish it with IIS: DistributedCryptography-Windows-x64.zip
Check it the same way before you use it:
certutil -hashfile DistributedCryptography-Windows-x64.zip SHA256The result must be the same as this value:
Loading…If the value is not shown, open the release page: it lists the SHA-256 of every file, and so does SHA256SUMS.txt.
Then unzip it to a folder of your choice and start it with Start.bat.
The video shows the zip file of an earlier version.

- To publish the app on a Windows server, see IIS (web app).
